Rev. Gus Browning
I am shocked to learn of Ralph's death. He seemed to be doing so well at our Carthage High "War Years" Reunion the first Saturday in April He gave the invocation. I'm guessing he had another stroke or a heart attack. Is that right?
I spoke with Ralph several times by phone before the reunion as we worked together on his history of the Class of 1943 for our Memory Book. I was amazed at his WW II story of a bullet hitting the rock where he had just shifted his position moments before. His story of diving off the 3rd deck of a boat was funny.
Ralph and I also worked together as soda jerks at Carthage Drug during high school. I finished in '44, a year after he did. After my 2 1/2 years in the Army, I started out in Pharmacy at UT - Austin as he did but I switched to Sociology. I'm sure he was a good Pharmacist and a successful businessman. Likewise, he was a good fellow Methodist.
I will send a contribution in his memory to our Carthage Independent School District Education Foundation. We both appreciated the solid education we received in CHS.
Blessings on Ralph's family and all who knew and loved him.
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Guston Browning
