Phillip Dreadfulwater, a beloved member of the Cherokee Nation, and a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force, has peacefully passed away at the age of 71 on December 19, 2023. Born on October 30, 1952, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Andrew and Rebecca Dreadfulwater. Phillip was a remarkable man known for his compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family, his people, and his country.
Phillip's journey began in Tahlequah, where he grew up surrounded by the rich traditions and culture of the Cherokee Nation. He proudly served his country with great honor in the United States Air Force, lauded for his bravery and commitment, he was awarded two Purple Hearts. Following his military service, Phillip pursued a career as a machinist, where he excelled and made a lasting impact in his profession.
Though accomplished in his career, Phillip's true joy in life was his family. He was a loving husband to his wife, Karla Dreadfulwater. Phillip's nurturing spirit extended beyond his immediate family. He embraced the values of his Cherokee heritage and held his roots close to his heart.
Phillip Dreadfulwater's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is preceded in death by his parent; Andrew and Rebecca Dreadfulwater, 2 sons; Phillip Dreadfulwater Jr, and Marlon Dreadfulwater, 4 brothers; J.B. Dreadfulwater, Charlie Dreadfulwater, Andrew Dreadfulwater Jr, and George Dreadfulwater, 3 sisters; Edna Dreadfulwater, Josephine Drywater, and Rose Scott. He is survived by wife, Karla Dreadfulwater, 1 brother, Albert Dreadfulwater, and 3 sisters: Char Porcaro, Rebecca Dreadfulwater, and Angelina Badillo (Humberto), and many other family members. His kindness, humility, and unwavering love for his family will forever be treasured and remembered fondly. His passing leaves an indescribable void in the lives of those left behind, but his compassionate spirit will always be remembered through the days ahead.
The loss of Phillip Dreadfulwater will be felt profoundly, but his memory will live on as a testament to the love, courage, and resilience that he embodied throughout his life. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
