Phillip Brin's Obituary
"Judge" Brin or "Phil" to all who knew him was a long time resident of Longview. He passed away February 5, 2009 at the age of 96. Born November 19, 1912 in Terrell, TX, Mr. Brin attended Texas A&M and graduated University of Texas Law School where he distinguished himself by achieving "Law Review" for the years 1934 and 1935 as well as being selected to"Order of the Coif". He came to Longview in 1935 where he joined another distinguished attorney, Mr. Angus Wynn.
During WW II, Mr Brin served as a district judge. After the war, he continued to serve the needs of the local community. Many younger attornies have reminisced how "Judge" was always willing and took the time to help them with his encyclopedic knowledge of Texas law. Mr. Brin gave generously of his time in many ways including such humble and needed tasks as waiting tables and serving up soup for the hungry with the Salvation Army.
Mr Brin is survived by his neice, Dr. Barbara J. Brin, and his nephew, Dr. Edward N. Brin, and many loyal and loving friends. He was a long time member of the Temple Emanu-el congregation in Longview.
Visitations will be held 2PM-4PM, Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Rader Funeral Home. Burial will be on Monday at 10AM at the Temple Emanuel Cemetery in Dallas with Rabbi Deborah Robbins officiating. A memorial service conducted by Mr. Max Statman will be held in Longview at 2PM on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Rader Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Emanu-el in Longview or a charity of individual choosing.
