Funeral services for Peggy Lou Cook Kernohan will be held May 26, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bud Miller officiating. Graveside services will be Sunday, May 28, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Attica Cemetery in Attica, KS . Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Kernohan passed away peacefully at Longview Regional Medical Center Tuesday morning.
Peggy was born May 28, 1930, in Spivey, KS to Tubert and Mary Cook. She received Christ as her Savior at the Attica Baptist Church in 1946, and May 24, 1955, she transferred her membership to Hazelton Methodist Church in Hazelton, KS.
Peggy was united in marriage to Glen W. Kernohan on July 14, 1947 in the Medicine Lodge Baptist Church in Medicine Lodge, KS. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Hazelton Chapter and served as Star Points Electa and Esther. She transferred to the Satanta, KS Chapter #254, and served as Star Point, Point Electa Esther, Ruth, ada Association Conductions, Conductions Associate Matron. She was Worthy Matron in 1967 and 1973. Peggy was Grand Page of the Grand Chapter of Kansas in 1973, and President of Owaissa Federated Club of Satanta, KS in 1966 and 1967. She was given citizenship awards from the Satanta Chamber of Commerce for her Civic Duties. Den Mother when her boys were in Satanta and President of Lantum Park Civic Association in Baytown, TX, where she lived for 14 years.
Peggy was a volunteer for several years at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Baytown where she served along with Glen as family coordinator. She was associate member of Goose Creek Past Matron.
Peggy moved to Lake Cherokee January 1, 1989, and then became a member of Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church. She was a member of LARC (Lake Cherokee Bridge Club, the Knife, Fork and Trowel, Lake Cherokee Supper Club, First Friends, and Cherokee Investment Club.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of almost 70 years, Glen Kernohan; sons, Randy Kernohan and wife Debbie of Gladewater and Kin Kernohan and wife Karen of Humble; grandchildren, Bridgette Faye, Nicholas Kernohan and Kendall Kernohan; step grandchildren, Michael ward and wife Brandy and Jamie Ward; great grandchildren Colby Corson, Drew Burson and Kylie Faye; step great grandchildren, Megan Waldon and Landen Ward. She was preceded in death by her son Kelly Kernohan.
