Pauline Cox's Obituary
Pauline Cox , 90 , of White Oak died peacefully on the 14th of October at the home of her daughter in Plano, Texas. Born Velma Pauline Richie at home in a small farmhouse in Linden Texas on July 24th 1928, Pauline was the first child of Albert Irl Richie and his wife, Berta Patient Johnson Richie.
The Richie family moved to White Oak in 1936, where they became members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Pauline attended the Bumpus School and later White Oak school, graduating from White Oak High School in 1946. She received an Associate’s degree from Kilgore College in 1948 and then worked as an operator for the telephone company in Dallas and Longview. In 1951 she was wed to William Lloyd Cox at Emmanuel Baptist Church in White Oak and began her life as a military spouse, living in various states and overseas until returning to White Oak upon his retirement in 1968.
Pauline worked as a librarian at the Nicholson Memorial Library, later Longview Public Library, for 29 years, beginning in the childrens’ section and later in the genealogy section. Many Longview residents will remember her childrens’ story times and puppet shows with her hand crafted puppets. Others will remember her assistance with their lineage research and aid in completing their applications for membership in various lineage societies. Mrs Cox was a member of Aaron Burleson chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Gregg County Genealogy Society in which she held several offices and was a member of the Gregg County Historical Commission.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and brother Lloyd C Richie. She is survived by a sister, Yvonne Richie of Plano, a brother Weldon Richie & wife Gloria of Longview, sister-in-law Edna Richie of College Station, daughter Lea Humphreys & husband Bryan of Plano, son Lloyd Cox of Walnut Springs, grandchildren Carin Humphreys Erickson & husband Bryan of San Antonio, David Humphreys & wife Chelsea of Papillion NE, great grandchildren Hailey Erickson, Jared Erickson, Andrew Erickson, Eli Humphreys and Emelyn Humphreys.
Services will be held at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Judson Rd at 10 am on Friday, Oct 26th with burial at Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom at 3 pm. Visitation will be on Thursday Oct 25th from 6 – 8 pm.
