Paul M. Morris' Obituary
Paul Mayes Morris, 85, passed away on 11 June 2007 at Summer Ridge Assisted Living and Retirement Community in Rockwall, Texas. Paul Morris was a man of great faith, a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He put his faith and family foremost in his life, serving as a loving guide to his two sons, daughter, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Paul enjoyed working in his garden, coin collecting, doing volunteer work and playing golf with his two sons.
Paul was born July 21, 1921, in Marietta, Georgia, where he later graduated from Marietta High School and Georgia Tech University with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Beginning his career with Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, Tennessee, Paul moved to Longview in 1950, as part of the initial team that founded Texas Eastman. He retired from Texas Eastman after 40 years.
In 1943, Paul married his wife, Margaret Louise ?Susie? Owens , of Smyrna, Georgia. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before her passing on August 23, 1998. Paul was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Longview, where he served as an Elder and member of his bible class.
Paul Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Newton Mayes Morris and Dora Malinda Garrison, and his siblings Gertie, Newton Ford, Eli Miller, Laura Margaret, and Charles Mace; his wife Margaret Louise; his son Larry Wayne, and his daughter Margarette Ann.
Survivors include his sisters Thomas Ruth and Clyde Elizabeth; his son David Lewis and his daughter-in-law Vaughan Morris; his grandchildren David Mayes Morris and Katie Vaughan Dye; Angela Dawn Temple and Lewis Mayes Morris; his great-grandchildren Jace, Tyler, Jeremy and Jacob.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM this Wednesday, 13 June 2007, at First Presbyterian Church of Longview with Reverend Jonathan Jehorek and Dr. W. D. O?neal officiating. Interment will precede the service at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church in support of the Haiti Mission.
