Mr. Attaway went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, December 17. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Attaway was born on February 10, 1937 in Houston, Texas to Joseph Milam and Mary Augusta Attaway. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School and attended the University of Houston until he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for 4 years and 4 months. He received an honorable discharge in December of 1967. Mr. Attaway was a piping designer in the petroleum and chemical engineering industry, retiring from Brown & Root, Inc. and Jacobs Engineering in Houston. After taking early retirement, Ken and Marsha moved to Longview in 2001.
While living in Houston, Mr. Attaway was an avid supporter of the University of Houston athletics program. He enjoyed attending all sporting events and worked as a volunteer several years in the alumni fund drives. He enjoyed the relationships he had with the coaches, players and other supporters.
Ken was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and he loved worshipping the Lord. He was an active member of the SAM?s group and Virginia Smith?s Sunday School class until his illness prevented him from attending. Ken enjoyed the Sunday evening worship service and the fellowship afterwards. He was very appreciative of the many visits from Senior Pastor Steve Coleman and Pastors Phillip Phelps and Virginia Smith. Their visits and calls brought him great comfort and he loved them and their families very much. Ken?s fun loving spirit and sense of humor will be missed be all those who loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 32 years, Marsha Acker Attaway; brother and sister-in-law, J.M. and Patsy Attaway of Highlands, TX; mother-in-law, Bernice Acker of Longview; sister-in-law, Gail Acker of Longview; son and daughter from a previous marriage, Paul Attaway and D?Linn Attaway; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the family and friends that visited him in the hospital and at home, for the phone calls, cards, food and especially the prayers and hugs. Ken was so proud of the prayer blanket that was presented to him by the SAM?s group. It brought him much comfort and he loved showing it to visitors and telling them what it meant to him. And special thanks to Dr. Michael C. Leath and his wonderful staff for their care and to HeartsWay Hospice for their care and compassion.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Longview Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 2601 H.G. Mosley, Longview, Texas 75605, or to the charity or your choice.
