Paul Loyd Garmon's Obituary
Paul Loyd Garmon began his life in the little town of Cookville, Titus County Texas, on August 4, 1917 and finished it on November 16, 2018 in Tyler, Texas, Smith County. A celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Paul joined the US Army in 1936, and was wounded in 1943 and put on retirement on February 29th, 1944. He spent a lot of his time working in the military, the Lion’s club, the Heartland association, and the National Patriotic Association. He put on the 4th of July program at the Gregg County courthouse for 14 years. Paul has received many honors by Barksdale Airforce Base, Fort Sill Army Base, and the big one at Fort Hood when he was honored as the Army Retiree of the Year in 1997. Paul lived so long that a lot of his friends went home before he did.
He was preceded in death by his great-great grandparents, Thomas and Sarah Kinsey (who settled in Texas in 1842); his great grandfather Thomas Garmon (who never made it to Texas); his great grandfather Peter Kinsey; his grandparents Roan and Mary Amanda Kinsey Garmon; his parents Haden and Birdie Etta Tate Garmon; his first wife and mother of his 4 children, Molly Katherine Pickle Garmon; his second wife, Annie Louise Conger Garmon; his daughter Lawanda Joyce Garmon Garner; his son Norman Loyd “Butch” Garmon; 2 grandsons and one great grandson; sisters Charlene McCarver and Mary Lou “Tootsie” Barham; his brother Morris “Buddy” Garmon, Sr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Robuck Garmon; daughter-in-law Barbara Garmon; sons Garland Paul Garmon, and Darrel Glenn Garmon and his wife Leone; grandchildren Susan Baker, Mike Garmon, John Garner, Michelle Smith, Jim Garner, Sandi West, Terry Lowery, Carissa Garmon, Daniel Garmon, Michael Young, and Fallon Young; great grandchildren Angela, Sarah, Rachel, Stephen, Kenneth, Brennan, Jackson, Chad, Shaun, Kelley, Amber, William, Audrey, Jessica, Mary, Makayla, Madison, Mason, Tiana, Jaden, Lexie, Trinity, Jonathan, and Christian; great-great grandchildren Kinzlee, Abigail, Asher, Jadzia, Mei, and Rumi; brother and sister-in-law James H. “Pete” Garmon and wife Billie Ruth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
