Paul Edward Yowell's Obituary
Paul Edward Yowell was taken by his Lord early in the morning of June 30, 2009. Paul had lived and worked and contributed to Longview since he and his wife, Rose, arrived here in 1955. It has been said by many who knew and loved Paul Yowell that he was the most honest and unselfish man they had ever known. He was able to use carefully chosen words, willpower, a positive attitude, and his belief in the power of good and God to accomplish many things in his short 83 years here on earth.
Paul was born on August 4, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was always teased by his father "that he was born without a job". Paul loved to work mostly because he loved people and he loved to learn and experience new things. He was an only child but counted many friends through his life as his brothers. He. and Rose moved to East Texas in 1952. Upon realizing the excellence of the Pine Tree ISD, he moved his family into Greggton around 1956. He actively supported PTISD, Greggton Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, and the Greggton Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of and served as president of the Longview Greggton Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. As a Rotarian, he hosted many exchange students over the years. During WW II, Paul served with the United States Navy. Paul loved fishing, golf, coaching baseball, working with the Boy Scouts, and belonging to the Delta Fishing Club. Often, he could found with friends out in the flats off the Mississippi river, up in the wilds of Alaska, or at the local golf course.
Paul and Rose moved onto their "little slice of heaven" out in Liberty City around 1979 and enjoyed the country life for 15 years. It was during this time that he joined forces with his son David and created the Yowell Builders of Longview. Together they designed and built many wonderful neighborhoods, one of which is The Woodlands, where he and Rose built their last home in 1995 and where they lived until last Saturday when he was moved into the caring aid of Beacon Hospice.
Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Yowell; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Randy Watts; his daughter, Paula Yowell and grandchildren, Corian Sabin and husband Chris, Caitlin Newsom and husband Aaron, Holly Berry and husband Cory, Tucker Watts, Josh Posey, and Kirby Posey.
Paul loved people and they were naturally drawn to him. All those who knew him are sure he left this world a better place.
Services will be 2 pm Friday, July 3rd, in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Schutz officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Anyone desiring to do so may make memorial contributions to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House, 5016 Gilmer Rd., Longview, TX 75605 or to The Rotary Foundation c/o the Greggton Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1166, Longview, TX 75606.
