PATRICK SMITH
Services for Patrick Smith of Longview will be 1 PM Monday, August 31st at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 Padon St., with the Rt. Rev. David Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. Patrick passed away on Tuesday, August 25th at a Longview hospital.
Patrick was born in Trenton, Michigan to Reginald and Dorothy Jobin Smith. A former resident of Harlingen and Marshall, he had resided in Longview for three years. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, an accounting controller, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Patrick was involved in many facets of Lions International. He became a member of the Harlingen Lions Club in 1990 and was named the "Lion of the Year" in 1992-93 and again in 2002-03. He served as president of the club in 1995-96. Patrick received a Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest honor for service granted by Lions International, twice 92-93 and 96-97. He was named a Texas Lions Camp Jack Welch fellow in 1997-98 and served as 2A3 District Governor in South Texas in 1998-99. When Patrick accepted a job in Marshall, Texas he joined the Marshall Lions Club and continued his service in humanitarian projects. Lion Patrick was a true Lion who believed in service to others.
Patrick was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Smith and his father-in-law, T. Robert Wolfe. He is survived by his wife, Diann; a daughter, Tina Styles; a son, Jason Slagle; grandchildren, Summer and Lakin Styles; his father, Reginald Smith; 7 brothers and their wives, David and Judy Smith, Timothy and Vicki Smith, Daniel and Debbie Smith, Dennis and Jo Smith, Terry and Janie Smith, Fred and Cindy Smith, Michael and Wendy Smith; brother-in-law and wife, Gary and Carolyn Lem Wolfe, and mother-in-law, Doris Wolfe. Patrick was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd. Sunday 4 to 6 PM.
