Otis Jackson Burk's Obituary
Graveside services for Otis Jackson Burk, 90, of Longview will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11 AM at Noonday Cemetery in Hallsville, Texas with Reverend Ricky Ricks officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Burk passed away on Friday evening in Longview after a long battle with dementia. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Burk was born on July 16, 1925 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Claude and Ethel Cole Burk. The family moved to the Longview area in the 1930’s. Otis played on the Pine Tree Pirate football team, graduated from PTHS in 1942, then he was drafted into the United States Navy where he proudly served four years in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon returning home, he attended BMI, a business school, where he met his future wife Freddie Jean Bunt. They were married on November 15, 1947. They will celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary this year.
Mr. Burk worked for the Associates Investment Company for 19 years, then 30 years for American National Insurance Company. During his working years, he was a member of the Greggton Rotary Club for 17 years and he worked on several Beautification Projects. He loved the game of golf and sharing an evening, with friends, on the golf course. He played in many tournaments in his younger days. He was also a long time member of the Greggton United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Freddie Jean Burk of Longview; daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Britt Goodman of Austin, TX; grandchildren Ty Koesel and Meredith Goodman; great granddaughter, Layla Rose Koesel; sisters Lola Warnix and Mona Hodges; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Pine Tree Lodge for their wonderful care and also to Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care and attention during this difficult time.
