Orval Ray Coates' Obituary
Orval Ray Coates of Longview, Texas, died on Saturday, January 11, 2025, after a long valiant battle with cancer.
Mr. Coates was born in Akron, Ohio on November 6, 1944. He is preceded in death by his father, Orval Ray Coates, Sr.; mother, Alberta Mae Dale; brother, Charles Melton Coates and beloved wife, Carol Lauschke Coates.
Ray joined the Marines after high school where he served 10 years. He then went on to become a project manager at AT&T and retired in 2015. Ray was also involved in trying to tear down walls between races and denominations. He was a member of the Longview Area Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, he served as a home group leader for many years and a leader of the Fun, Food and Fellowship Group. Ray was a member of Citizens on Patrol and much more. He was loved by many.
Ray is survived by his sons, Ken Coates and wife Karen; Jack Coates; Louis Eckerdt; his daughter, Jaclyn Alexander and husband Jeff; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 20, 2025, at High Ridge Church in Longview, Texas. Private Family burial will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00pm to 7:00 pm. An online guestbook may be signed at www.raderfh.com
