Opal Benoit's Obituary
Opal Carolina Benoit: Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on April 21, 1915 to Henry Atlas Roberson and Mamie Lou Carr Roberson. Opal married the love of her life Lester Lee Benoit on July 15,1933. Opal and Lester Benoit were blessed with their only daughter Lora Lee Brown on November 19, 1935. In 1953 Opal, Lester and Lora moved from Fort Smith , Arkansas to Longview, Texas where they made it their life long home. Opal's husband Lester died in 1966. Opal who was a homemaker had to learn to drive and she soon found work as a telephone catalog operator for Sears and Roebuck. She remained with Sears until she retired at the age of 72. She was a member of the Longview Missionary Baptist church for 62 years and taught the Mary-Martha women's class for 12 years. Opal loved the Lord and was an avid reader of the Bible and the printed page. She continued to read until the day she passed away.
Opal was loved by all who knew her -- especially her devoted daughter Lora Lee and her son-in-law Jerry Lee Brown. Opal had 3 grand-children, 11 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grand-children ! She adored all her grand children and they adored her in return.
Opal was proceeded in death by her parents, Henry and Mamie Lou Roberson , her beloved husband Lester Lee Benoit in 1966 and her sister Myrtle and brothers Donald and Henry Roberson. Grand-Daughter Karen Brown
Opal Carolina Benoit is survived by her daughter Lora Lee Brown and son-in-law Jerry Lee Brown of Avinger, Texas. Grand-Children: Kristine Denise Gallagher (Mike) of Johnstown, Colorado, Dena Suzanne Lynch (Ed) of Crystal Beach, Florida and Leslie Nicolette Allshouse and David Escamilla of Avinger , Texas. She is also survived by her Great-Grandchildren, Nikolaus and Hunter Britegam, Lindsey Stepongzi,Fletcher Etheridge , Leah Smith and Kate Lynch and Mallory Raibourn (Brandon),Cassidy Caffey (Matthew), Shelby Allshouse,Colten Allshouse and Jordan Escamilla. In addition 7 Great,Great Grandchildren ; Cailey Stepongzi, Kennedy Stepongzi, Cwen Stepongzi, Liv Stepongzi ,Riley Allshouse, Catcher Raibourn and Camden Caffey.
Opal Benoit's Pall Bearers will be Mike Gallagher, Nik Britegam, Hunter Britegam , Colten Allshouse, Mathew Caffey, Brandon Raibourn,David Escamilla.
Honorary Pallbearers :Fletcher Etheridge, Jordan Escamilla, Camden Caffey and Catcher Raibourn
Services will be held at the Longview Missionary Baptist Church ,800 E Loop 281, Longview, TX 75605 on Wednesday, September 10,2014 at 10:00 AM . She will be buried at the Memory Park Cemetery 2823 E Marshall Ave, Longview, Texas following the service.
