Oliver "Mack" McClain's Obituary
Memorial services for Oliver Evan "Mack" McClain, 78, of Longview will be at 2 pm, Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Radar Funeral Home with Brother Joe Hancock officiating. Interment will be afterwards at the Noonday Cemetery in Hallsville, Texas. Mr. McClain passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010.
Mr. McClain was born September 26, 1931, in St. Louis, MO, to Carey E. and Loraine Leigh McClain. He was a graduate of Hallsville High School. Mr. McClain was a veteran having served in the Army as Sergeant and Tank Commander in the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Before and after returning from the war, he was employed by the Texas Eastman Company where he retired after 40 years of service.
Having attended high school together, Mr. McClain married Betty Opal Croft on June 24, 1955. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005 and were married for 52 years.
He spent his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The McClain's loved hunting and fishing and spending time with their family. Mr. McClain will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Betty Partney. He is survived by his three children, daughter Suzanne Taylor and husband Jack of Bastrop, Texas, son Jim McClain and wife Kristi of Minden, Louisiana, and daughter Deanne Gibson and husband Wayne of Hallsville, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Robert McClain and wife Marilyn of Longview, Texas, and his sister Janet Knight and husband Regan of Longview, Texas, and 11 grandchildren Cheri Rice of Austin, Mickey Mehrens of Georgetown, Misti Scudday of Kilgore, Kimber Roten of Minden, LA, Danielle McIntyre of Longview, Kalen McClain of Minden, LA, Sheila Wright of Greenwood, LA, Roy Taylor of Bastrop, Jason Taylor of Austin, Claudette Taylor of Clearwater, FL, and Eleanor Davis of Albia, IA, and 20 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beacon Hospice – Margaret's House in his memory.
The family will receive friends at Radar Funeral Home in Longview Thursday evening from six until eight pm.
