Olie Ray Solomon's Obituary
Olie Solomon passed to his heavenly home on Friday, May 19, 2017, at the age of 76. He was born in Venita, Oklahoma to Claude and Lena Solomon on January 18, 1941. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers Gordon and Charles, his sisters’ Christine and Erma, and his grandson J.D. Davis.
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife Betty of 53 years, his son James and wife Michelle Solomon, daughter Tami and husband John Davis, daughter Heather and husband Chris Cox, grandchildren Brandon Davis, Tyler Brewer, Cade Fischer, Sarah and Sophie Solomon, and his great-grandchild McKinley Brewer.
Mr. Solomon grew up in Grand Prairie, TX. Olie left school in the ninth grade to work full-time at Wyatt’s Food Store. At the age of 17, he entered the Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Midway and spent time in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines. Upon discharge he attended Simpson Bible College where he met his wife Betty. He continued his college at Ft. Wayne Bible in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Following college he worked for Teen Challenge in Dallas as Director of Evangelism where he often ministered to the homeless under the overpasses. Then he directed Harbor Home Servicemen Center in Chula Vista, California for several years. The Servicemen Center was a home away from home for many men in the service where Betty often prepared meals for groups of up to 75 people. In 1978, Olie and Betty moved to Longview and Olie worked for ACF for 18 years. He then worked for Westinghouse Air Brake as a salesman for 10 years. Olie loved helping others and enjoyed remodeling projects. He was most fulfilled when working with Eight Days of Hope restoring storm ravished areas for communities.
A celebration of his life will be held at Fellowship Bible Church on Saturday, May 27, 2017, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m. Olie’s favorite charity was Eight Days of Hope. More information can be found on the following website http://www.eightdaysofhope.com/donate.
