Odine B. Devers' Obituary
Odine Breaux Devers (59) born in Wichita Falls, TX on September 16th, 1960 passed away in the comfort of her home in Council Bluffs, IA surrounded by love on August 29th, 2020 after a brave and courageous 3-year fight with cancer. Jesus lead her through Heavens Gates for the long-awaited reunion with her beloved husband David Devers of 31 years who passed December 24th, 2019 and her adored son Matthew Devers who passed July 5th, 2017. Her loving parents Odis Pruitt and Jackie Pitre were also there cheering her on with pride for a job well done.
Ondine’s life was truly an inspiration to so many – full of hard work, fight, determination, independence, and most of all bravery. She dedicated her life working with the armed forces as a soldier and civilian for 23 years. She poured her love not only into her children and family, but she was always going above and beyond for military soldiers and their families. She was a true Patriot, loved our Country and served with the utmost dignity and selflessness. She, her husband, and two youngest sons moved to Alaska in 2003 on her husband’s Permanent Change of Station move to Fort Wainwright. They quickly fell in love with Alaska and decided to make it their home. After Dave had passed away, Odine made the move to Iowa to be closer to friends and family in the lower 48 in February 2020.
Anyone blessed to know Odine was aware of her strong work ethic, which was passed down from her Mother. She dedicated herself and took pride in everything she did, whether that be in her career, shoveling snow in -25-degree weather, carrying logs to her cabin, or tending to her yard and garden. She also loved cooking and was well known for her southern cuisine and welcoming hospitality. Nobody ever went hungry at the Devers house with Momma D’s fried chicken, green beans, buttery mashed potatoes, and her famous made-from-scratch desserts - true southern pecan pie or her German chocolate cake. She was always cooking for fundraisers and special events for various organizations.
Odine was at great peace during her final days knowing how hard she fought. She never let her illness define who she was nor let it slow her down. She was comforted at home by her cherished fur-babies, Sugar and Lil’ Girl, who adored her as much as she adored them. She is also eternally thankful to her sister Deidre Thomas and little brother-in-law Matthew Diaz who never left her side during her inspirational fight.
Odine is survived by her loving children Tonya Breaux, Mike Devers (Abbey), Hannah Fraim (Chris), and Joshua Devers. Sisters Deidre (Dennis) Thomas and Bobbie Schroder. 10 treasured grandchildren Zachary, Anthony, Jacquelyn, Shane, Lilyanah, Hayden, Kaylani, Heath, Emerie and Elijah. Daughter by heart Marquisha “Joe” Hamilton, and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
