Novie Jeannine Butler's Obituary
NOVIE JEANNINE BUTLER
Novie Jeannine Keasler Butler was born August 8, 1934 at home to Joe Bassett and Novie Summers Keasler. She passed from this life to her eternal home on February 4, 2009. She was a faithful member of the Alpine Church of Christ. She loved Ladies Class, fellowships and especially the children of the church. She was lovingly called the "Gum Lady". Wherever there was a gathering of children, you would find Jeannine giving out gum.
She loved to sing, majoring in music in college. She sang for many weddings in her early years. She played piano, sang with several choirs and performed in several musicals. She was the first Drum Major for the Hallsville High School Band. She attended Kilgore College and was a Rangerette. She also attended Baylor University.
She loved her home in the country, located just outside Hallsville, less than a mile from where she was born and where she lived for about 36 years. She loved to cook and prepared many special meals for family and friends. After she became disabled, she and her husband moved to Colonial Village Retirement Center in Longview. As her health declined, she moved to Summer Meadows Nursing Home. She was the most contented person you will ever find. She never complained but always, like the Apostle Paul, learned to be content, whatever the circumstance. For 30 years she faithfully found comfort from the daily devotional reading from "Power for the Day".
She was preceded in death by her parents Joe Bassett and Novie Keasler, infant sister Bobbie, and brother J.B. Keasler, and her special friends and travel companions, Bud and Rose Ann Gregory. She left to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Charlie Butler; her step-mother, Clara Keasler and her family; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Joe Campbell of Lancaster, California, Becky and Bill Lane of Longview, and Renita and Jimmy Bellamy of Longview; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Damian and Katie Campbell, Josh and Kathy Campbell, and Lydia Campbell, Karyn and Gene Cooper, Kasey and Casey McCollum, Ashley and John Anderson, Nick Bellamy, Lance and Courtney Bellamy, and Noah Bellamy and seven great grandchildren, several cousins and special friends, Jon Paul and Karas Hatch and their boys.
The Butler family extends their special thanks to Summer Meadows Nursing Home and to HeartsWay Hospice for their kindness and excellent care given to Jeannine.
Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 7th at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry McCaghren officiating. Burial will follow in the Hallsville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at Rader's 5 to 8 pm. Jeannine's grandsons will serve as her pallbearers and her grandson, Josh Campbell, who is serving in Iraq will be an honorary pallbearer.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Alpine Christian Academy, 610 E. Loop 281, Longview, TX 75605.
