Nile Freeman
Funeral services for Nile Freeman, 84, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Father Bruce Lincon officiating. Burial rites will be conducted by the Longview Elks Lodge. Burial will follow in Grace Hill Cemetery. He passed away, Sunday, July 26, 2009 in a Longview hospital.
Nile was born January 16, 1925 to parents Nile and Suzie Freeman in Delart, Arkansas. During WWII, he served his country in the Navy. In 1947, Nile came to Longview and made it his new home. His first job in Longview was for Carl Estes selling advertising for the Longview News. Shortly after, he met his bride of 60 years, Doris Smith. They were wedded on November 25, 1948. Together they raised three children, Robert, Nila, and Monty. Nile left the newspaper and entered the furniture business. He began handling sales promotions for furniture stores and then worked for Serta Mattress as a sales representative for many years. Later, Nile owned and operated Home Furniture in Longview. After retirement, Nile enjoyed puttering around the house and playing dominoes and shuffleboard at the Elks.
Nile is survived by his wife, Doris, and his children: son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deb Freeman of The Colony, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Nila and Randy Mobbs of Longview, Texas; and Monty Freeman of Mansfield, Texas. Five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
