Mrs. Roberts went to be with her Heavenly father at 2:30 AM on January 31, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home of Longview on Monday, February 1, from 4-6 PM. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, February 2, at Algoma Cemetery North, Highway 80 East, in Marshall, Texas with Reverend David Lawson and Darlene Matthews officiating.
Nerva Kiser Roberts was born on March 29, 1914 to John Robert Kiser and Nancy Webster Kiser in Mt. Vernon, Texas. She married James C. Roberts in Midland, Texas on November 4, 1930 and was a devoted wife and mother. She was a resident of Marshall, Texas for 53 years except for living in Dallas for 5 years. She has been a resident of Longview for 22 years. During her years in Marshall she was an active member of Port Caddo Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. After coming to Longview she became an active member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and the Providence Sunday School class. Mrs. Roberts retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone as Assistant Chief Operator after completing 25 years of service.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Billie Fulmer of Longview; granddaughter, Patricia Fulmer of Longview; grandsons, Bobby Fulmer of Longview, David Fulmer and wife Jackie of Athens, TX, Rob Roberts and wife Stefany of Birmingham, Alabama, and Brian Roberts of Gainesville, FL; great grandchildren, Cory Wes Fulmer of USMC Camp Pendleton, CA, Jake Roberts and Cole Roberts of Birmingham, Alabama, and Ryan Fulmer of Waco, TX; and several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, James Calvin Roberts; son, Thomas Rayburn Roberts; brothers, Claudie Kiser, J.R. Kiser, Johnny Kiser, Harvey Kiser and Harold B. Kiser; sisters, Annie Kiser, Dovie Bush and Dessie Beauchamp.
Nerva was loved and respected by all who met her. She always had a winning smile for everyone, plus words of encouragement. Her philosophy of life was ?when times were good, that was just fine, but when times were not so good, well that?s just fine too,? because God was in control of all events in her life.
Nerva, a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend will be missed by her loving family and her host of friends, but we are all comforted by the fact that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, a place of Eternal rest with no more pain or suffering, no sorrows or tears. There is no place on Earth to compare.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Heights Baptist Church, Darlene Mathews Ministry, both in Longview, or to the Port Caddo Baptist Church in Marshall.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Katrina Woods and all the faithful employees at Songbird Assisted Living for their constant, loving care over the past 8 years. Also to Sandi Long R.N., Adrian, and Chaplain David Reeder with Texas Hospice for their compassion, care and visits over the past 6 months.
A memorial guestbook may be signed online at www.raderfh.com.
