Nell Cave Murray's Obituary
A memorial service for Nell Cave Murray, 84, of Longview, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Alpine Church of Christ with Jerry McCaghren, minister, officiating. Private family interment services will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery. Mrs. Murray passed away October 29, 2011 after a battle with acute leukemia.
Nell was born on April 14, 1927, in Ennis Texas, to Sidney Albert and Vashti Ewing Cave. Nell graduated from Ennis High School in 1944 and attended night classes at Southern Methodist University while working at General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Dallas. She moved to Longview in 1950 with her employer. Many of her closest and most cherished friends were the ladies she met in the early 1950's. During this time, she met and then married Wes Murray on July 5, 1956. Her fondest memories were of good times spent with family and friends at Lake Cherokee, since 1971.
Nell and Wes Murray established Murray Jewelry Company in 1959. She was the matriarch behind this family owned and operated business for over 50 years.
Mrs. Murray was a 60 year member of Alpine Church of Christ. She was a committed volunteer for the American Heart Association, chairing the Heart Ball in 1998. In later years, she enjoyed volunteering at Caring and Sharing Outreach Ministries.
Mrs. Murray is preceded in death by her sister, Sidna Jo Andrews, by her daughter, Carol Kay Murray Wittig, and by two infant granddaughters, Cheri Angela Wittig and Lindsay Marie Murray.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, A. Wesley Murray and their three sons: Judson Alan Murray and his wife, Nancy of Longview; Jason Cave Murray and his wife, Kim of Longview and James Wesley Murray and his wife, Susie of Sugar Land. She is also survived by a son-in-law, Robert Wittig of Brownwood, by her brother, Douglas M. Cave of Longview and by her only nephew, Lynn Andrews and his wife, Susan of Omaha, Nebraska.
In addition, she is survived by thirteen wonderful grandchildren: Heath Murray and wife, Sissy of Ft.Worth, Ryan Wittig of Brownwood, Daniel Murray, Wesley Murray, Alyssa Murray, Jonathon Murray, and Stephen Murray of Sugar Land, and Rebecca Erin Murray, Judson Cave Murray, Tessa Murray, Hannah Murray, Austin Payne and Nathan Lawrason, all of Longview.
