Nathan M. McAlister's Obituary
A celebration of life service for Nathan M. McAlister, 80, of Longview will be held at 10 AM Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Rev. Scott Schulik officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. Mr. McAlister passed away Tuesday afternoon surrounded by his family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. The family will receive friends from 9-10 AM prior to the service.
Nathan was born on February 23, 1938 in Van, Texas to J. Bee and Lois McAlister. He attended public schools in Van and graduated in 1956. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Music Education from East Texas State University in 1960, and a Masters of Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1963. He began serving as Minister of Music and Youth at 18 years old in various churches in Louisiana and Texas. He was the first Minister of Music at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Longview. He also taught music in public schools in the area. Nathan was a long time member of Mobberly Baptist Church and a charter member of the Singing Men of East Texas.
Nathan was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Blackwood McAlister in 1992; his parents; one sister, Geraldine McAlister; and one brother, Perry Dee McAlister.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Mosher McAlister; his children and their spouses Lisa McAlister Reedy and Duke of Reno, NV, and Jeffrey Michael McAlister of Longview; step children Trevelyn Phillips and husband Kevin, and Kirk Mosher and wife Peggy; grandchildren Megan Phillips, Micah Phillips and Sara Mosher.
