Rev. Nathan A. Helms Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for the Rev. Nathan Helms will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 am in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview Texas.
Re. Helms went home to be with his Lord Jesus on November 20, 2015. He was born on July 27, 1926 near Tyler, Texas. Nathan was one of six children born to Nathan and Letha Helms. He grew up in Cass County and attended school in Atlanta and Linden, Texas.
While he was serving in the United States Army (Fort Benning GA) in 1952 he met and married Betty Jean Jackson of Columbus, GA at the North Highland Assembly of God Church. For 54 years Nathan and Betty ere full time ministry with the Assemblies of God. He was ordained in 1957. After attending Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas he and Betty pastured their first church in 1957. Nathan became a well known minister for his teaching and preaching of the bible. He taught in Longview School of the Bible for several years. His love for the bible and his Lord Jesus continued his teaching and preaching many years after the death of his wife Betty.
Nathan was preceded in death by Betty, daughter Letha Dwigans, son Walter Neal, brothers Micky, Huel, and Ad and sister Velera Brown. Also his in-laws, Walter and Mildred Jackson of Columbus, GA. Nathan is survived by his daughter Lana Gabriel and husband Larry, his son-in-law Ted Dwigans, brother Glen Helms and wife Thelma. His three grandsons David Dwigans, Sean Gabriel and wife Megan, and Aron Warren and wife Monica; along with four great grandchildren
