Naomi Colvin Chandler's Obituary
Services for Naomi Colvin Chandler, 98, of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 11, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Reverend Lester Wooten and Russell Craft officiating. Interment will follow in Rusk County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Henderson, TX. Mrs. Chandler went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 9, 2003.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Grant, Louisiana, on March 24, 1905 to John Calvin and Martha Baggett Colvin. She was married to John L. Chandler June 6, 1925.
She was a long-time resident of Henderson where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a leader of the Spiritual Life Group and received a life-time membership in the Women?s Society of Christian Service.
She operated an antique shop in her home for many years. She moved to Longview in 1980 to live with her daughter, where she became an active member of Longview Christian Fellowship.
Mrs. Chandler lived a long and useful life of dedicated service to her Lord and many of His children. Her home was always open to anyone in need, and she was never happier than when she was giving joy and comfort to someone else.
She spent many hours making scrap books for the children in the church and sending notes and cards of encouragement to others.
She was an avid gardener and loved sharing her flowers with friends.
Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Chandler, her mother and father, John and Martha Colvin, four sisters, Della Harper, Sevella Buckner, Lydia Harper and Lettie Buckner.
She is survived by one daughter, LaRue Dorsey; one grandson, Randall L. Dorsey; one great grandson, John Randall Bailey and wife, Bridgett and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by a large extended family, J. C. and Dorothea Hancock and family; the Reverend Mark Davidson and wife, Rebecca and family; Kevin and Colleen Walters and family of Niger, Africa; and her devoted
and loved care giver, Margie Hamm, who loved and cared for her as a daughter.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening, October 10, 2003, from 6-8 PM.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Longview Christian
Fellowship.
