Mygnone Nonnie was born May 7, 1904, in Pike County, Mississippi, to Marcus W. and Rosa Johnston Lenoir. She grew up in McComb, Mississippi, the oldest of 7 children. She was married to her husband, Ernie Boone, for 62 years. They left their native Mississippi and moved to Longview in 1966, and he died in l984. Also preceding her in death were her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are one sister, Annice Lenoir Edwards, of Woodlands, TX, two daughters, Dorothy Lenoir Legg and husband, Dr. George Wayne Legg of Longview; Dr. Anne Boone Johnson and husband, William T. Johnson of Gulf Breeze, FL.; granddaughters, Christie Kay Legg, of Charlotte, NC; Cynthia Ann Coleman and husband, Darren Coleman of Longview; Catherine Harrison and husband, Dr. Craig Harrison of Tyler; Carol Mygnone Foley and husband, Kevin, of Tyler; grandsons, Alan Boone Johnson and Andrew Bryan Johnson of Gulf Breeze, FL.
Surviving also are 10 great-grandchildren: Craig Edward Harrison, II; Christian Lloyd Harrison, Chandler Boone Harrison, Victoria Lenoir Coleman, Robert Boone Coleman, Kevin Michael Foley, Jr., Frances Mygnone Foley Nonnie; Alexis Ann Johnson, Olivia Rose Johnson and Trent Johnson.
Nonnie had a remarkable memory of events that happened during her lifetime and at age 100 completed her autobiography ?My 100 Year Journey? with Dr. Anne Johnson. Time Magazine in ?My Turn Family Heroes? recognized her at age 95. Mrs. Boone was featured on Channel 7?s Pride of East Texas with Joan Hallmark twice.
During her life she worked as a business secretary in the lumber industry and as a legal secretary in several law offices in Brookhaven, MS. She and her husband owned and managed a small, lovely farm outside Brookhaven in Lincoln County, MS. She passed along her love of flowers and fresh vegetables to her family. After moving to Longview she was an invaluable bookkeeper in Dr. Legg?s dental office until retirement at age 87; throughout her lifetime she was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, gardener, babysitter and very supportive Mother and Grandmother. She was affectionately called, ?Gi-Gi?.
Her lifelong loves were her family and church. Stewardship began early as a teenager playing the pump organ while her father led the singing at Centenary Methodist Church in McComb, Miss. Mrs. Boone loved reading the bible and was a member of Thelma Morgan Sunday School Class at Longview?s First United Methodist Church. While she regretted not being able to attend worship services in her later life, she never missed a Sunday watching televised church services sometimes singing along with the choir.
The family wants to extend heartfelt thanks to caregivers Shay Bolton, LaTonya March, Anna Gray and Annie Whitaker, and to Heart?s Way Hospice for their dedicated, loving care of our beloved Nonnie.
Mrs. Mygnone Boone will be affectionately remembered and missed by many friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 409 Fredonia, Longview, TX 75601 or Heart?s Way Hospice, 1304 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX 75604.
