Murvil Byrd Jr.'s Obituary
Murvil Byrd, Jr., a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend ended his journey on earth on April 8, 2019. Dying peacefully at home, Murvil was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Murvil and Katherine Smith Byrd June 14, 1937.
The family moved to Longview in his early years where he attended local schools graduating form Longview High School in 1956. While at LHS, Murvil was a gifted athlete, lettering in basketball, baseball, and football and was Co-Captain of the Lobo 1955-1956 football team. Following school, he enlisted and served honorably in the United States Marine Corp. After basic training, he served in Okinawa, Japan and South Korea. His working life was mainly focused in the beverage industry.
He is survived by; his wife Eleanor Croxton Byrd, daughters, Ginger Byrd Dudjak (Scott), and Tracee Byrd Davis (Jeff). Granddaughters; Kennedy Dudjak, Rylee Davis and Fynlee Davis. Brother Bobby Wayne Byrd (Ann). Uncles Gary D Smith, George M. Smith (Dorothy). Aunts, Nettie Smith, Eloise Smith, nephew Bobby Wayne Byrd, Jr. (Darby), nephew Brett, niece Brooke and numerous cousins. Bonus children, Ann Lawrence, Clay Lawrence (Tami) bonus grandchildren, Celia Frost (Andrew), Ellen Spiller (Joel Wooten) and Carter Lawrence (Kelly). Bonus great-grandchildren, Rowan, Asa, and Wren Frost, Everett and Iris Wooten and Charlotte Lawrence.
Murvil had a quick wit and keen sense of humor, was a great dancer, a skilled fisherman and competitive golfer, as well as being a great companion. We will all miss him.
A celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM Friday, April 12, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview with Father William Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
The family appreciates the loving care given by Hearts Way Hospice, Liz and Susan. Remembrances may be made to Hearts Way Hospice and/or Highway 80 Mission.
