Morris E. Ferrell Sr.'s Obituary
Morris E. Ferrell, Sr. died unexpectedly at home in White Oak, Texas Monday October
26, 2015 at the age of 86 years.
Morris is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maggie Rudd Ferrell, daughter, Rebecca Ferrell Michwich and husband, Tommy, of Shreveport, La.; sons, Morris E. Ferrell, Jr. of White Oak and Joe Wesley Ferrell and wife, Debby of Parrottsville, Tenn.; sister, Lillian Ferrell Parker of Waskom; sisters-in-law, Bess Brumble of Bethany, La., Daisy Heitner of Shreveport, La., and Rebecca Abney of Shreveport; and a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Morris was born August 21, 1929 in Cass County, Texas to Burl and Eulalia Ferrell.
He graduated from Linden High School. Following graduation he joined the Marine Corps, serving in California two years. Following his tour of duty he began work in the oilfield. After a distinguished career with Mobil Oil Corporation he retired as Senior Production Foreman in 1996.
Morris enjoyed hunting, golfing, and fishing with family and friends. He and his wife, Maggie were world travelers. Morris was generous with his time and service to others, including volunteering as docent at the East Texas Oil Museum for many years, Little League president, serving on the American Petroleum Institute (API) golf committee and scholarship board for over 40 years. Morris also authored articles on the “Big-Inch/Little-Inch” pipeline that was crucial to the WWII war effort.
Morris was an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Longview, serving as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and superintendent. He and Maggie made many mission trips for the church and Buckner International.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, from 6-8 p.m., at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Funeral services will be held Thursday, at First Baptist Church in Longview, 2 p.m., with Dr. Cary Hilliard and Dr. David English officiating and Dr. Tom Webster providing the music. Interment will be in the White Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Goodman, Danny Walton, Shaun Botzong, Ronnie Ferrell, John Murrell, and Lyndon “Pinky” Reed. Honorary pall bearers are Morris’ Sunday School class, First Baptist church deacons, Dr. Rodney Henry, Dr. Jay Chastain, James Williams, and the API Board of Directors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to house of Hope, Highway 80 Mission, Longview Symphony, or to the charity of your choice.
