Monnie G. Linton's Obituary
Monnie Glenn Linton was born on March 9, 1949, in Longview, Texas, where he lived his entire 74 years. He left his earthly home on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. We will celebrate his life on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd., Longview, Texas. A time of visitation will begin an hour prior to the service at 11:00 a.m.
Monnie grew up in the Judson community where his grandparents had settled in the 1930’s and where his mother Marilois English Burge has lived most of her life. He graduated from Longview High School in 1967 after Judson ISD consolidated with Longview ISD (a sore subject for Judsonites). He was blessed to meet Brenda Woodall whom he married on June 9, 1973. Not long after they welcomed their first son Blake, they moved to his grandparents’ home on the family land. There they had their second son Burge. Blake and Jennifer and Burge and Kristal continued the tradition of the close knit family by building their homes on the family land. The family spanning four generations spent many happy times together on “the compound,” and Monnie was looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends this year.
A smokin’ pitmaster, a floorman, a fisherman, a comedian, just a few of the names for this colorful character we called Monnie. He was a son, a husband, a dad, a granddad, a good friend and “a mess.” He would probably tell you his favorite title was Pops or Poppy.
Monnie Linton is survived by his loving mother Marilois English Burge and his very special stepfather Jerry Burge; beloved wife Brenda Linton; son Monnie Blake and wife Jennifer and their daughter Georgia Pearl, and son Robert Burge and wife Kristal and their children Aubrey Claire and Luke Robert.
