Millard Chambers' Obituary
Millard G. Chambers passed peacefully on September 12, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. A memorial service will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, on Saturday, September 30, at 10:00 a.m.
Millard Chambers was born in Gilmer, Texas, on March 2, 1947, to Mr. Mildred and Mrs. Aline Chambers. He is a 1965 graduate of Gilmer’s Bruce High School and attended Texas Southern University in Houston. After attending TSU, Chambers enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1972 to 1977, where he met his wife. Upon returning to the U.S., he settled in Longview with his family and continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1981. During this time, he also followed in his father’s footsteps and worked many years for Lone Star Steel Company, followed by Norris Cylinder. Chambers also owned and operated C&C Convenience store on MLK Blvd. in Longview. After a few years, he set off on a new (and his most favorite) adventure as an OTC truck driver. This adventure took him all over the U.S. and he enjoyed sending postcards from his various stops to his children and grandchildren. Chambers loved the outdoors – fishing, hunting, racing horses, and tending to his cows at “the farm.” He also enjoyed tinkering with cars and model airplanes.
Millard G. Chambers is preceded in death by his father Mildred G. Chambers, and mother Aline Chambers of Gilmer; brothers Veodis Thompson of Los Angeles, California and Jack Chambers of Oakland, California; and sister Dimple Edwards of Longview.
Chambers is survived by his brother Roy Chambers; nephew Taroylan Montgomery; nieces Toyia and Shaundria Chambers; Cornelia Chambers; children Lawrence (Aisha) Cobbins, Daniel Chambers, Kim (Kendy) Guillaume, and Nick (Nadiya) Chambers; and seven grandchildren.
