Mildred Onita Mcnew's Obituary
Mildred Onita Hawkins McNew, affectionately called “Granny grunt” by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, peacefully passed away to her heavenly home at her residence in Longview, Texas on June 8, 2019, at the age of 97.
She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Dixie Robertson and Kerry Warwick and her husband, Jerry, all of Longview. She is also survived by her sister, Merlene Russell, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Jenny Hawkins, a brother Billy Joe and sister, Frances; her loving husband, Benjamin James McNew, Jr., and son and daughter-in-law, Jeb McNew and wife Virginia, daughter and son-in-law, Jaime Turlington and husband Billy, and Thomas Robertson, beloved son-in-law.
She was born on August 31, 1921 in Tyler, Texas. She married the love of her life and remained married for 53 years until his death in 1996. After moving to Tatum later in life, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, looking for recipes in magazines, collecting numerous items, and being a good friend to many. She could nurture any plant back to life and also could make any delicious treats imaginable.
She lived at Colonial Village in Longview for 21 years, where she made numerous friends and was enjoyed by many of the staff members that treated her like family.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday evening, June 10 from 5PM to 7PM and a graveside service will take place on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 beginning at 3PM at Chalk Hill Cemetery next to her late husband. Grandsons and Grandsons-in-law will be the pallbearers.
