Mildred Maness' Obituary
Services for Mildred Maness will be held at Greggton United Methodist Church, Thursday 3:30 PM with the Reverend Emmitt Barrow officiating. Interment will be at Memory Park Cemetery in Longview, Texas. Mrs. Maness passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, November 14, 2006. She was 89 years old.
Mildred was born in Cherokee County, Texas on November 6, 1917, to parents, Cecil and Annie Smith. She graduated from Rusk High School, where she was a member of the girl?s State winning basketball team. She married her childhood sweetheart, K. E. Maness in March 1937, and they had over 40 wonderful years together until his death in 1982. The two of them worked side by side in various business endeavors in Jacksonville and Waco, Texas, before retiring in Longview in 1980.
Mildred was known for her great love of her family. Nothing made her happier than to be seated in the middle of a room surrounded by the laughter of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She knew how much they loved their ?Mamaw?!
She also had a special place in her heart for the Dallas Cowboys. She never missed a
televised game. In her earlier years, she and her husband, K. E. were regular season ticket owners.
Tom Landry and Roger Staubach will always be the REAL Cowboys in her eyes!!
Mildred was a member of Greggton United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Sunday School Class, which she dearly loved-although her health prevented her from attending the last few years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three brothers, Merritt, Lawrence, and Everett Smith, and her brother-in-law, W. W. Maness.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Billie and David Bennett, daughter, Connie Cobb;
grandchildren Julie and Randall Smith; Renee Pullen; Suzanne and Tom Nourse, and Chris Cobb; great grandchildren Paige and Tyler Simmons, Reed Pullen, Shannon and Erin Smith, and Kevin and Abbie Nourse; and great friend and caretaker, Jeanette Taylor.
Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas.
