Mildred Evelyn Works' Obituary
The Lord gained a special angel Tuesday morning as Mildred Evelyn Works went home to heaven and to see her Savior. Mimi was born September 23, 1918 here in Longview and was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her soul-mate Claude Works preceded her in death after 69 years of marriage. Two of three sons, Jerry and Wayne also preceded her to heaven. She is survived by son Phillip Works, Daughters-in-law Bettye and Mary Ann Works, Grandchildren Randy and Kim Works, Tim and Shirley Works, Laura and Daniel Jordan, Jason and Shell Works, Joseph Works, and Jeff and Julie Works. Great Grandchildren are Jeremy and Kim Cotton, Clay and Kelly Owens, Keith and Holly Cotton, Jake Moore, Brooke Works, Bailey Works, Keagan Jordan, Matthew Works, Jeshua Works and Hudson Works. Great-Great Grandchildren are Kaylen Works, Adyn Owens, Kaydee Cotton, Tyson Owens, and Kylie Cotton. Sister-in-law Inez Edwards, nieces and nephews Jimmie Ruth Keith, Norma and Jerry McAfee, Elwanda and J. W. Burgess, Dalma Nix, Frankie Rogers, Annell and Jim Langston, Robbie and Curtis Kruse, Sonny and Janie Pepper, Sonny and Loly Woodall, Gay and Charman Ingram, Paula and Joe Orosz and numerous other relatives. She will also be sorely missed by her church family that she loved at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Many will miss her sweet smile and kind hug from that fourth row. Some of her life-long friends include Selma Naifeh, Fred Bostick, Julia King, Bebe Johnson and cousins Doris Howell and Edwin Fisher.
Mimi spent many years caring for her family, working in the family business, volunteering at church and serving her Lord. If she wasn't at home, you could probably check church, one of the area nursing homes, or maybe even Wally World except for Friday morning when she had a set appointment at the beauty shop. She would challenge any visitor to an exciting game of Uno or some other card game and she usually came out the victor. If you received a special encouraging note or a cute birthday card and it was in purple ink, you could guess who sent it. You could find her early everyday sitting in her big chair reading the scriptures. If you never had the chance to eat her homemade rolls or pinto bean dumplings or fried apple pies or 7 layer lemon cake, you really missed out. Everyone who knew Mimi saw a beautiful lady full of real love.
We invite you to join us in a celebration of her life and her love at Rader Funeral Home in Longview with visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and service on Friday Morning at 10:00, Rev. Kevin Bright officiating. Pall bearers will be her six grandsons with honorary pall bearer Fred Bostick. Burial will follow in Judson cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mimi would have loved a donation to the Oakland Heights Baptist Church Library.
