Mildred Pool Blalock's Obituary
Obituary of Mildred Pool Blalock written summer of 2022 at age 98 as gift to her daughter.
Family and Friends, my savior called me home today May 7, 2026 at the age of 102 in Longview Tx.
I was born May 4, 1924 in the Chicken Feather Community of Henderson, Texas to Thomas E. Pool and Claudie Young Pool. I was the oldest of three children. At the age of 11, I accepted Jesus as my Savior. I have tried to put him first in everything I do.
During my childhood I lived during the depression of the 20’s and 30’ and in May, 1942, I graduated from Gaston High School. This was the year my family moved to Hallsville. In Oct, 1942, I met Bill Edward Blalock, my love. World War II was going strong. Bill joined the navy in 1943, and I went to Tech School and then had a job as floor shell inspection supervisor in a defense plant in Shreveport, La. The fall of 1945 the war was over and I moved back to Hallsville. Bill came back to the states on Christmas Eve, 1945 and on Jan. 6, 1946 he was discharged. Six week later on Feb. 9, 1946 we were married. We had 57 years together. No woman was ever loved like I was. In 1946 we started going to Hallsville Methodist Church. We later joined in the early 50’s where I was a member until 2025. At that time, I joined Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Longview, Tx. where I was member until my death.
In 1950 Bill started working for the Hallsville Post Office and I was a homemaker until 1960. When Hallsville was beginning to grow and the City of Hallsville had only 2 employees, I was the first lady that worked for the City of Hallsville. I started to work with paper and an old typewriter, I set up a set of books and worked for the city for 7 years. From the City I went to the Bank as Teller for three years and from there to the Hallsville Schools for eleven years. In 1981 Bill and I retired. We had many good years of retirement together. Bill died Feb. 1, 2004.
In 2017, I sold my home of 50 years and moved to Arabella Independent Living in Longview where I have made many new friends. Thanks to all the Pool players for all the good times I had, trying to beat you. Thank you, Arabella, for all the activities you have and a place to go church when you can’t go to your home church.
I am preceded in death by my husband, Bill E Blalock, my mother and father, my sister, Evelyn Pool Jones and husband, Maurice Jones, my brother, Elgen Pool and wife, Virgie Pool.
I am survived by my daughter Donna Blalock Turner and son-in-law Rick Turner, (Hallsville), three grandsons, Rod Turner and wife Tonya (Ft. Worth) Craig Turner, (Rockwall), and Mike Turner and wife Lori (Georgetown). Eight great grandkids, Brittany and husband Kyle, Bryce, Bailey and husband JJ, Kennedy and husband Matthew, Kassidy, Presley, Carson, and Kacey. Two great-great granddaughters (Austen and Josie) and two great-great grandsons (James and Reese). I also have several cousins, nieces and nephews and a lot of close friends that are family to me. My daughter says that that I only gave birth to one but was a mother to many over the years.
In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice.
Visitation with family will be at 2:30 May 16, 2026 with service following at 3:00 pm. Graveside Hallsville Cemetery.
(The family would like to thank the very special caregivers and nursing staff that Mom had during the recent year. You are now all family.
