Mike E. Nolte's Obituary
Mike E. Nolte, a revered East Texas oilman, beloved husband, and dedicated father, passed away peacefully at his home in Gilmer, TX, surrounded by his loving wife, Alicia, and his cherished daughter, Ella Bleu.
Born on December 21, 1958, in Waco, TX, Mike was the son of Ruth and Harold E. Nolte. He grew up alongside his three siblings, Dr. Harold E. Nolte, Jr. and wife Lynn, Ann Nolte Karol and husband Phil, and Annette Nolte Rode with husband Joe. Mike is also survived by his two brothers-in-law William Lee and wife Nancy, and Steve Lee with wife Danh, nephew Robbie Lee and wife Casey, niece Lindy Arocha and husband Dennis. He was a proud uncle to many other nieces and nephews. Nolte was preceded in death by his two parents and brother-in-law, Lewis Lee.
After graduating from high school in Waco, Mike pursued his degree at Baylor University, where he earned a BBA in Finance, and graduated with National Merit Scholar honors. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted Baylor Bear football fan. Following his graduation, Mike embarked on a successful career in the oil and gas industry, starting as a landman at Gene Powell Investments, Inc. in Longview, Texas, and eventually starting several successful oil and gas related companies of his own. Over the span of 35 years, Mike achieved numerous milestones in his career, including assembling numerous successful drilling prospects, negotiating Right-Of-Way agreements, oil & gas leases, surface assets, and mineral deals. His boldness, tenacity, and charisma made him a respected figure in the energy sector.
Mike's professional legacy will live on through those he mentored in the industry and the oil and gas wells proudly named after his family. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was known for his generosity and willingness to help others in need, whether they sought assistance or not. He took pride in serving on the Lake Cherokee Water Board and several other charitable boards in the Longview community. Mike proudly supported Alicia and Ella's philanthropic efforts for the Longview Animal Shelter. With a gentle nudge from his wife, he was always willing to arrange for one of their many ranch animals or dogs to be flown to Texas A&M for a checkup at a moment's notice.
Mike's larger-than-life personality and his genuine kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
Mike had a habit of never saying "goodbye" after a phone call; he would simply hang up, as if implying "there is no goodbye, only a see you later." As Mike Nolte now rests in heaven, his family and friends in Christ find solace in knowing they will see him later.
A celebration of Mike’s life will take place July 9th at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Longview, TX at 2:00pm.
