He is survived by his wife, Karen Nugent Shelton, sons Matthew and Clayton Brooks of Hallsville, TX, daughters Clelsea Shelton and Chastadee Baily of Van Buren, AR, grandchildren Brendan and Lexi Spearman of Van Buren Arkansas, sisters Sandra Shelton Warner of Arlington, TX and Lequita Shelton Westbrook of Bullard, TX, brothers Charles David Shelton and Jerry Shelton of Ben Wheeler, TX, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Michael, known by many as “Mike,” served in the United States Air Force for four years, and upon Honorable Discharge served in the United States Navy Reserves. During Mike’s career, he had many different occupations for Tyler Pipe, Carrier Global, and Smith County Sheriff's Department. After working in these areas for most of his life, Mike decided that he wanted to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a Realtor. He had the pleasure of working under his Broker, Mark Coleman, of Texas Farms and Ranches Real Estate Co. When he was not out traveling the roads of East Texas, he enjoyed traveling to various destinations, relaxing near a beach, fishing, attending church at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Longview, and being an active member of his church life group, Koinonia. While at home, he would spend most of his time with his favorite jungle cats, Samantha Rose “Sammie” and Magnolia Grace “Tootie,” and spending time raising flowers, green plants, and tending to his successfully producing banana trees.
In lieu of flowers, Michael has asked for donations to be made to The Woodland Hills Christian Academy in Longview, TX.
