Michael Paul McCarthy's Obituary
Michael Paul McCarthy was born on October 5, 1945 and passed away on December 1, 2025 in Longview, Texas.
Michael McCarthy graduated from Clint High School in Clint, Texas in 1963. He then attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He attended McMurray College. Michael was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He served in the Navy from 1964 to 1972. He retired as a Fire Control Technician Petty Officer 1st Class. During his service he served on the USS WAINWRIGHT. His service decorations include: Naval Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star and 3 Bronze Stars, and the Second Good Conduct Medal Award.
Michael started his civilian career with Motorola working on mid size electron microscopes. He then worked for TOPCON where he became the Vice President of Sales. Later he worked for RJ Lee Solutions as the Vice Presidents of Marketing and Sales. He finished his career with Aspex as Vice President of Marketing and Sales. He traveled the world with many business trips to China and Japan. He lived many places during his lifetime such as El Paso, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; San Jose, California; Fair Lawn, New Jersey and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He moved back to Texas in 2005 where he resided in Longview until his passing.
In his retirement he spent his time welding and designing his goods which he sold at Canton Trades Days for 15 years. He loved music and could be found welding and playing his songs from his UHaul truck as he worked. During his time in Canton he made many friends and memories. Michael had a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor and was a talented wood worker.
He is a loved husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra McCarthy; his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jen McCarthy; his grandchildren, Conner, Cameron, and Ellie; his daughter and son-in law, Amy and Steve Cunningham; his son, Michael Paul McCarthy Jr.; his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Beverly Malmendier and their children Mark and Paul; his brother and sister-in- law, Patrick and Dottie McCarthy; Sister in law Syliva Brandon; his nieces, Dr. Lisa McCarthy, Kellie Fredrick and Pamala Cartagena; his aunt and uncle Patrica and Ethan Rusaw; his step daughter and son-in- law, Amy and Michael Best; and his step grandchildren, Morgan Miller, Ethan Miller, and Jimmy Hooten. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl McCarthy and Gladys Van Dyke, his step son Brent Hooten, and brother in law Jack Brandon.
His family will be honoring his memory at a small family graveside service and a celebration of life in the spring.
