Michael Baker, 69, of Longview, Texas, passed from this life into his new life with the Lord on February 12, 2008. Visitation will be Friday, February 15, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home. Funeral services honoring his life will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 12:00 at Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview with the Reverend Scott Schulik officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Trinity Cemetery in Gloster, Louisiana with the Reverend Ron McLellan officiating.
Mike was born January 8, 1939 in Longview, TX. He graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1957 and attended Texas A&M, where he studied mechanical engineering.
He married Barbara Burford Baker in 1972 and lived most of his life in Texas, Louisiana and Arizona. Mike worked in the power tool industry before they returned to Longview. In 2000, Mike started his own business, Fastsigns of Longview, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
He was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church and shared his faith with others every chance he got. Through the years he served as Sunday School Director, a choir member, and taught toddlers with his wife.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his father, Merrill Baker, and is survived by his wife, Barbara "Barbie" Baker, his mother, Frieda Baker, his children, Michael Baker and wife Jan; Stephen Baker and wife Sandi; Debra Rathbun and husband Gary; Sally Hudson and husband Paige; Susan Bilnoski and husband Kent; his sister Sharon Fountain; his grandchildren, a perfect Baker's dozen, Chris, Cole, Mandy, Branden, Stephen Bradley, Leslie, Brian, Aaron, Taylor, Mitchell, Shelbey, Sadie, and Seth; and a most recent blessing, one great grandson, Rylan.
The pallbearers will be the six oldest grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the two youngest grandsons, Seth and Stephen Bradley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to Mobberly Baptist Church, 625 E. Loop 281, Longview, TX 75605 or to Gloster Baptist Church, P.O. Box 86, Gloster, LA 71030
