Melvin R. Cooper's Obituary
Funeral services for Melvin R. Cooper, age 84 of Henderson, will be held Saturday December 31, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Kuykendall officiating. Burial will follow at the Rusk County Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Rader Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until 2:00pm before the service at the Church.
Mr. Cooper was born December 4, 1932 in Henderson to Birdwell and Fay Cooper, and died Tuesday December 27, 2016 in a Richardson nursing facility. Melvin was a 1950 graduate of London High School, and attended Kilgore Jr. College. He was retired chief appraiser for the Rusk County Appraisal District, and also had worked for Pritchard & Abbott. Melvin was former member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon Emeritus, and former member of the Board of Trustees of Texas Baptist Institute where he is now Deacon Emeritus and Trustee Emeritus. Mr. Cooper was a member of the Clinton Lodge#23 A.F.A.M., Scottish Rite Lodge of Free Masonary, S.J. U.S.A., Valley of Waco, Texas, Sharon Shriners International, Tyler, Texas, Henderson Chapter #597, Order of the Eastern Star Rusk and Panola Counties, and the Scottish Rite Club.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother L. Talmadge Cooper, sister Marie C. Barber & brother in law Calvin Barber.
Survivors include his wife Juanita Cooper of Plano, daughter Linda McClellan and husband Lyle of Richardson, granddaughter Veronica Lester and husband Lance of Richardson, and great grandson Rowan Lester, nephew Carl Barber & wife Vivian of Henderson, and sister in law Janice Mathis of Henderson.
