Melvin Caffey's Obituary
Melvin Caffey, age 88, of Longview passed away September 13, 2017. He was born to Lon and Elizabeth Caffey January 5, 1929 in Pritchett, TX. Growing up Melvin attended local schools in both Pritchett and Gladewater and graduated from Gladewater High School.
Several years later he met Lou Moore and they married on May 1950. In 1953 Melvin enlisted into the US Army where he proudly served our country.
Melvin taught printing at LeTourneau University. Later, after the college disbanded the printing program Melvin opened up his own printing business and for the next 10 years owned and operated East Texas Litho in Longview.
Melvin loved spending time in the outdoors both fishing and hunting. He and Lou enjoyed traveling all over the US and making friends at every stop. They enjoyed square dancing and were also an active member of a local Clogging Group. Melvin was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Longview Church of Christ.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 68 years Lou Caffey, sisters-in-law Mary Loftis, Claudine Boren and her husband Ed, Marie Phillips and a very special niece Sue Humphreys and her husband Mike and 5 generations of a host of extended family. Melvin will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Melvin’s parents precede him in passing.
Funeral services will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview Monday, September 18, 2017 starting at 2pm with viewing starting at 1 pm. Interment will follow services at Crossroad Cemetery in Upshur County.
