Maynard E. Musselman's Obituary
Maynard E. Musselman went to be with his Savior and Heavenly Father on November 1, 2023; joining his loving wife of 34 years, Marjorie; his parents, Elmer and Arlene Musselman; brother-in-law Gerald Adams.
Services to commemorate the life of Maynard E. Musselman will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 4, 2023, in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Schulik and Rev. Greg Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Rosewood Park. Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of LeRoy Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Maynard was born on August 22, 1942 in Bath, Pennsylvania, and reared in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966. He graduated from LeTourneau University with Honors in 1970, with a BA in Business Administration; and in 1972 from Stephen F. Austin University with a MBA emphasis in Management. He also was a graduate of the Institute of Organizational Management, the Chamber of Commerce of the United States and completed 4 years of post-graduate work at the Institute.
He was a faithful member of Mobberly Baptist Church since 1973, and at various times during his membership, served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Department Director, and served on various church committees. In addition, he was an original member of the of the Sixteen Singing Men and a member of the Mobberly Church Choir.
In his professional life, Maynard was an instructor for Le Tourneau University in the early 70’s and taught in their Containing-Education and LEAP programs over the years. Between 1973-1990, he was employed by the Longview Chamber of Commerce, during which time he organized and was Director of the Visitors and Conventions Bureau, Assistant Manager and General Manager; Manager of the Berry Family Pools in Tyler; and owned an insurance agency from 1990-2005, where he represented Farmers Insurance Group. Upon retiring, Maynard worked part time as a Directors Assistant for Rader Funeral Home of Longview for 15 years.
Over the years, Maynard was active in many civic endeavors receiving numerous awards and certificates. Among his civic activities, he was a member and director of the Longview Executive Club; secretary and treasurer of the Gregg County Crime Stoppers from inception till 1994, and was recipient of the Gregg County Crime Stoppers Service Award; past member of the Greggton Rotary Club; director of Nursing Home Ministries; served 2 terms on the Board of Chamber Professionals of East Texas; past president and chairman of the LeTourneau Alumni Board; past president and board member of the Longview Lions Club; charter board member of Junior Achievement of East Texas; United Way publicity committee; and Vocational Guidance Advisory Committee of LISD which presented him with an Outstanding Citizen Award.
Those left to cherish Maynard’s memory are his devoted son, Jerry Musselman of Longview; grandchildren Landon Wayne and Kaydie Mareigh Musselman; sister Harriet Adam of Allentown, PA; brother Donald Mussleman and special friend Ella Blume of Grand Junction, CO; niece Melissa Wagner and husband Brian, of Kejabe, Kenya, Africa. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Gwen Hanni and husband Steve of Richardson; sister-in-law Margaret Musslewhite and husband Wayne of Longview; Clint Musslewhite and wife Stephanie of Arkansas.
A special thanks is extended to all of the organizations, medical professionals, caregivers, friends and staff of LeRoy Rader Funeral Home of Longview, for all their help, concerns, support and encouragement shown to his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mobberly Baptist Church Oasis Project, specifically earmarked for the Chapel in the Woods/Conference Center; LeTourneau University for a Business Administration Scholarship; EC Church in Myerstown, PA. for support of missionaries Brian & Melissa Wagner.
