Maud Lynette Norton Bivins' Obituary
Maud Lynette Norton Bivins, born January 26, 1924, passed away after a brief illness on April 7, 2004. The daughter of Oliver Lee and Lynne Smith Norton, she was a lifetime resident of Longview, Texas.
She graduated from Longview High School, attended Southern Methodist University and received her degree from the University of Texas in Austin. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
In 1944 during World War II, she married the love of her life, James Knox ?Knottie? Bivins, III. They were married for 41 years until his death in 1985.
She enjoyed many hobbies and activities with her family and friends, including fishing, hunting, cooking, gardening, games and cards of all kinds and especially planning parties.
She and her husband, Knottie, were instrumental in the development of the Asbury House. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church. Maud was a charter member of the House and Garden Club, President of the Charity League and later President of the Junior League of Longview.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, Lee Norton Bivins. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Simpson and husband, Lamar of Longview and her daughter, June Baumoel and husband, Jim of Dripping Springs, Texas. Her grandchildren are Elizabeth Simpson of Dallas, Lynne Simpson of Ft. Worth, Caroline Simpson of Longview, Matt Baumoel and wife, Stephanie of New York City and Megan Baumoel of Atlanta. She is also survived by her "sister" Carolyn S. Russell of Longview and her sister-in-law, Peggy Bivins Reed of New Orleans.
A celebration of Maud?s life will be held for family and friends at the First Presbyterian Church of Longview at 3 PM on Friday, April 9, 2004.
The family would like to thank the 6th floor nursing staff and doctors, particularly, Ed Duncan of East Texas Medical Center, for their loving care and guidance during Maud's final days.
