Matthew Allen Rea
On July 5, 2016, at 4:00 am, Matthew Allen Rea left this world to meet his Lord and Savior. He was in Longview Regional Hospital in the presence of his Wife, Millie Rea and sons Michael and Montgomery Rea. He was 81 years old.
Family visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday, July 6, at Rader Funeral Home on Judson Road, Longview. The memorial service will be Thursday, July 7, at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 9, at Welden Cemetery in Harveyville, IA under the direction of Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, IA.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Millie Rea, three sons Michael, Marvin and wife Tammy Rea and Montgomery Rea; 9 grandchildren, Paul and wife Rochelle Rea, Candice and husband Chris Wood, Jacob, and wife Anna Rea, Zachariah and wife Nicole Rea, Sarah her husband Casey Odell, Shanna and husband Brett Leuer, Adam and wife Nohemi Rea, Amandalyn and husband Wilfred Van Note III, and grandson James Matthew Rea; and 28 great grandchildren.
He graduated from What Cheer High School in What Cheer, IA in 1954. He joined the U.S. Army in Oct, 1956 and served two years. He served in the 2nd, 4th, and 9th Infantry Div. He attended Tennessee Temple Bible College in Chattanooga, TN. He worked for the Polk County Sheriff in Des Moines, IA from 1971 to 1974, winning the Award of Merit for Outstanding Service in the Line of Duty. He worked for Massey-Ferguson for almost 10 years.
