Mary was born on February 16, 1931 to Myrl Brown and Edward James Hornbeck in Tyler Texas. Mary spent most of her life in the East Texas area. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1948. She met her future husband Joe, the young, new biology teacher at Kilgore High School, while working as the secretary to the Superintendent of Kilgore ISD. They married on May 26, 1959. Together they raised three children in Kilgore, where the family enjoyed summer camping and taking lots of road trips. In 1968, Mary began her secretarial career at Kilgore College. She earned her Associates Degree from Kilgore College in 1979 and her B.S. from UT Tyler in 1982 while working full time and raising three children. Joe and Mary retired to Longview and spent the last 20 years traveling in their RV around the country, entertaining their grandkids and great grandkids and being involved in many civic organizations, such as Meals on Wheels. Mary’s outgoing personality and sense of humor was a source of great encouragement to her friends and family.
Mary loved her family and showed it by caring for her mother and sister Nancy until their deaths. Mary loved her grandkids and great grandkids and time spent with them. She enjoyed serving at Mobberly Baptist because she loved her church family and she loved the Lord. Due to health issues in the last several years, she was not able to attend church as often, but often commented on how much she missed being at Mobberly Baptist and the Yeates Sunday School class.
Mary, dearly loved and greatly missed by her husband and best friend of 57 years Joseph M Webb; their three children: Dr. Michael David Webb of Eugene, Oregon, Marijo Basinger and her husband Kyle of Plano, Texas and John Mark Webb and partner Lance Wallace of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren Jon Ellington and his wife Lori, Jarrad Webb, Aaron Basinger and his wife Rachel, Adrienne Michelle Webb, and Lauren Powell and her husband Jimmy. Mary and Joe have four great grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua and Jordan Ellington, and Regan Powell. Mary is also survived by her sister Sarah Tuttle of Longview as well as many nieces and nephews.
