Mary Sue Malone
Services for Mary Sue Malone, 91, of Longview, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Road, with Dr. Charles Barham officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in the Sugar Valley Baptist Cemetery at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the Original Sanctuary of Sugar Valley Baptist Church in Sugar Valley, GA under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home.
Mary Sue Malone was born August 22, 1919, in Gordon County, GA, near the town of Resaca, to Ben B. Allen and Susie E. Ward Allen. Her family moved to Sugar Valley, GA, where she attended school and graduated from Sugar Valley High School. Upon
Her graduation, she went to work for the Muse and Dixie Bell plants.
She married James Daniel Malone, Sr., in 1943, and moved to Vicksburg, MS, shortly thereafter. While in Vicksburg, Sue gave birth to her first son, Dan, Jr. Upon her husband's departure with the United States Navy, she and her son moved back to Sugar Valley, GA, for the next three years. Once her husband was honorably discharged from the Navy, the family then moved to Longview, Texas, where Dan, Sr., was instrumental in helping R.G. LeTourneau open his new plant. While living in Longview, Sue gave birth to a second son, Richard Paul "Rickey".
Sue had been a member of Mobberly Baptist Church since 1959 and had previously been a member of Sugar Valley Baptist Church prior to moving to Longview, TX. She worked in the nursery at Mobberly Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed playing with and teaching toddlers. Sue was an avid gardener and loved both growing and showing her plants and flower arrangements. Sue self-described her love of gardening as "…having never got playing in the dirt out of her system…". She was a lifetime member of the Texas Garden Clubs as well as being a member of the Iris Garden Club.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan, Jr., and Dianne Malone of Longview, TX; granddaughter and husband, Misty and Gary Porter of New Braunfels, TX; great-granddaughter, Zoe Porter of New Braunfels, TX; grandson and wife, Rodney and Latricia Malone of Longview, TX; sister-in-law, Jean Allen of Calhoun, GA; sister-in-law, Bonnie Allen of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Norman Malone, of Sugar Valley, GA; sister-in-law and husband, Bobbie & Tarver Shirley of Smyrna, GA; a special aunt, Helen Carter of Atlanta, GA; niece, Regina Sloan and family; niece, Debbie Avery and family; niece, Kim Allen and family; nephew, Barry Allen and family; nephew, Kevin Malone and family; nephew, Warren Malone and family; nephew, Randy Shirley and family; nephew, Mike Shirley and family; nephew, Tim Shirley and family; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mary Sue Malone was preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Malone, Sr.; a son, Richard Paul "Rickey" Malone; a sister, Lois "Kitten" McBee; two brothers, Fred Allen and Ben B. Allen, Jr.; sister-in-law, Ellie Malone and her son, Norman, Jr.; and brother-in-law Millard Paul Malone.
The Malone family wishes to express a very special "Thank You" to the staff of Alpine House, Heartsway Hospice, Encompass Home Health, and Good Shepherd Medical Center, as well as to Dr. Robert Sansom and his staff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made either to Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview, TX, or to Sugar Valley Baptist Church at 249 Harbour Road, Sugar Valley, GA 30744.
