Mary Ellen Strickland's Obituary
Mary Ellen McLain Strickland, 92, passed from this earth into Jesus’ arms December 21, 2024, in Longview.
Mary was born in Alto, Texas, to Horace and Mable McLain on October 10, 1932. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Eldridge Strickland; daughter Verna Mauldin; sisters Pauline Moseley, Faye Johnson, and brother Dewey McLain. Those left to cherish their memories of Mary (Nana) include: her daughters Doris Lawrence and Phyllis Harrell of Longview; son, James and wife Lisa of Hallsville; grandchildren, Ellen Campbell and husband Rusty of Longview; Chris Jones of Brandon, Mississippi; Griff Mauldin and wife Jennifer of Longview; Kevin Jones and wife Kasey of Lake Cherokee; Emily Dunagan and husband Joey of Hallsville; Lindsay Sloan and husband Mike of Richardson; Josh Strickland and wife Hollie of Longview; Allison McKinney and husband Sidney of Hallsville, eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of First Baptist Church Hallsville over 50 years where she taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and the Young Married Couples’ class. She attended Stephen F. Austin and received a certification in Food Management. She served as Cafeteria Manager at Hallsville Elementary and retired after 25 years of service.
The family would like to thank her special caregiver, Equallia Malone, who lovingly cared for her in her final months. We also want to thank the staff at Parkview on Hollybrook and Hospice Plus who helped care for her in her last days. Our family will forever be thankful.
A time of visitation and fellowship will be held at First Baptist Hallsville 10 a.m. December 26, 2024 with services following at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be at Hallsville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Hallsville Building Fund.
