Mary Smith's Obituary
Mary Beth Hardin Smith passed from this life into the arms of Jesus and her loved ones Monday, July 6, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul P. Smith Jr. of Longview, Texas, parents Eugenia (Jeanie) and Bill Hardin of Longview and Sister Billie Jean Ottman of Longview. Mary Beth was born in Marshall, Texas and grew up in Longview. She was a graduate of Longview High and Kilgore College where she was both a proud Rangerette and Paul’s sweetheart. Their marriage lasted 50 wonderful years. She lived most of her adult life as a devoted full-time wife and mother. Later she used her skills as an artist to paint and package her own wildflower needlepoint designs into kits under the name Beth Designs. She was a life-long Christian and nurtured a deep faith in, and love for God through Jesus Christ. She greatly enjoyed living the last 9 years of her life in San Antonio near her son and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Paul P. Smith III and wife Linda of San Antonio, as well as two grandsons Aaron R. Smith of Houston and Jason P. Smith and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to express very special thanks to her dedicated caregivers – Esther Ramos, Rosario Navarijo, and Leonor Porto, who provided 24 hour care over the past few years and loved her like a member of their own family.
Visitation will be held Monday 5 – 7 pm at Rader Funeral Home Longview, followed by a graveside service Tuesday, 10 am. at Memory Park Cemetery, 2823 E. Marshall Ave. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated.
