Mary Smith's Obituary
Mary E. Smith, 83, passed away January 8, 2017, peacefully surrounded by family at home. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Lawrence, from Heart to Heart Hospice, will officiate.
A beloved mother and wife, she is survived by her daughter, Debbie Wesson and her husband Jody; grandson, Nick Wesson and his wife Brooke; and granddaughter, Katie Case and her husband Courtney.
Mary was born on January 19, 1934, in Jackson, Mississippi, and married Buddy Smith on November 16, 1951, in Jackson. She and Buddy lived in Mississippi and Chicago before moving to Texas. They lived in Longview for 23 years before moving to Karnack. In 1994, they moved back to Longview to be closer to their grandchildren.
Mary worked at Thiokol Army Ammunition Plant, in Karnack, for 37 years, starting as an accounting clerk and retiring as Controller.
Buddy and Mary loved to travel. After their retirement, they would road trip across the country with friends. They both volunteered with different opportunities through their church. Buddy and Mary celebrated 58 years of marriage before Buddy passed away in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dorsey Lee Smith; mother, Ola Allen Smith; sister, Bertice Boatwright; brothers, James Smith and Dorsey Lee Smith, Jr.; husband, Loring (Buddy) Harold Smith; and son, Richard Lee Smith.
She was a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church.
