Mary Shepperd-Howard- Schrader's Obituary
Mary Schrader was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world on February 16, 2021 to join her loved ones in heaven.
Mary Louise Miller was born November 4, 1924 to James Sydney Miller and Hallie Marie Glenn of Big Sandy, Texas. She graduated from Big Sandy High where she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen, and salutatorian. During WWII, she worked as a typist for FBI in Florida. She married William Wayne Shepperd, also of Big Sandy, February 16, 1947. They owned and operated a laundry and dry cleaning business in Dallas, Texas before relocating to Longview in 1956. There, they owned and operated Pinewood Laundry and Dry Cleaners. Mary was also an accomplished seamstress and did alterations. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Sunday school teacher. After the demise of the laundry business, she went to work for Good Shepherd Hospital where she became manager of admissions. She held this position until her retirement. After the death of her husband, she later married Paul Howard. Sometime after his passing, she wed Dr. Robert J. Schrader. They lived together in Palisades in Longview till his passing. Mary enjoyed traveling, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a brother, James Albert Miller and half-sister, Hazel Christine Welk. She is survived by her brothers, David Lane Miller and Perry Donald Miller; her sons, Gary Wayne (Kathy) Shepperd and David Alan (Yolanda) Shepperd; grand-daughters, Jennifer Ann (Brent) Corrigan, Melinda Leigh Shepperd, Leslie Aleen (fiancee Kyle Wofford) Shepperd, Deana Marie (Gareth) Mason; and three great-granddaughters, Cosette, Charis and Chloe.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 12:00 pm. A time of fellowship and visitation will be held the hour prior to the service. Mary will be laid to rest at Chilton Cemetery in Big Sandy, TX following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the First Christian Church of Longview, Texas.
