Mary "Roycey" Gordon
Ms. Mary "Roycey" Gordon went to be with the Lord October 8, 2012 at a local nursing home. She was born July 28, 1934, in Church Hill, TX to Mary Kate and Julian Strong. She was a resident of Longview, coming from the Henderson area. Ms. Gordon worked at Gregg County Association of Retarded Citizens for 32 years. She was very active in all fund raising projects and served as a leader in the local community. She served as a Special Olympics coach for over 20 years. She was a lifetime member of Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church since 1960, where she taught Sunday School, served as a children's coordinator, adult coordinator, church school superintendent, youth counselor of MYF and was instrumental in organizing the first youth choir. She received over 100 awards for her amazing teaching and coaching talents. She touched the lives of many and was such an amazing, loving, caring Christian woman.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Kenneth Gordon.
Ms. Gordon is survived by her sister, Betty Arnold; son Ricky Gordon of Henderson; daughter, Donna Clark and husband Randell, and special person, William "Andy" Martin of Longview; grandchildren, Amber, Ashley and Cody Howard; great grandchild, Mason Calvery; best friend, Julie Kilfoyle and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Reverend Dick Dobbins and Reverend Virginia Wall officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.
