I will always remember Ms. Mary Lou Reed. She was my PE teacher at Mozelle Johnson in the early 70s. A tough but fair lady. Coach Reed was one of my favorites because she always encouraged me to be a better me.
Mary Lou was one of the finest educators I ever worked with during my career in Longview ISD. She was dedicated to helping us, the teachers in her care, just as she was to her students. She was tough but consistent, applying the rules consistently and fairly. As the students often said, she didn’t play. She took her job seriously. She was a hard worker, never asking others to do more than she herself was willing to do. She also had a heart of gold, often buying students clothes or school supplies with her own money. I remember what a great smile and robust laugh she had. She certainly made an impact of all of us and her students. Job well done, my friend! I am glad you spent six years at Longview High School. 💚
Mary Lou Reed was an outstanding educator. It was truly a pleasure to see the encouragement, love, and high expectations she shared with the many students whose lives she touched. The last time I saw her she was at local grocery store helping a young lady who could not pay for her groceries. I just needed to share this with her son, Jimmy and his wife Micki. She was constantly giving of herself to others. What a blessing she was to so many of us.
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Jimmy and Micki as well as all her family. May Our Heavenly Father give her an extra measure of His comfort and peace.
Mary Lou was one of the sweetest ladies I have had the pleasure to know. She welcomed me to my new job in Longview with a smile on her face! I am so thankful that she became my friend. She was dedicated to her students and staff at Ware Elementary and to Longview ISD! Mary Lou was truly one in a million! My condolences to her family. God bless you and comfort you.

Mary Lou Reed was an exceptional leader and educator. She and her faculty worked to take Ware Elementary from an "unacceptable" to a "recognized" school in a short period of time. Our companies were fortunate to work with her for several years. In 1996, she was hosted at the Capitol by Governor George Bush and later at the Governor's Mansion for her achievements. She challenged her students to reach their potential. As they achieved their goals, she was known to office on the roof at Ware Elementary or fly off in a hot air balloon to the delight of the student body. She was an EXCEPTIONAL educator and I am proud to have known her.

My heart is so broken. You were so kind and precious to me. My beautiful aunt. We had so much fun on vacations to six flags and our visits meant so much. You always made me smile and made sure I knew how much you loved me. I’m only sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye before you left for home. Tell maw maw and paw paw and daddy that mom and I will see them soon. And tell terry don he better behave himself. lol.
