Mary Nugent's Obituary
Mary Smith Nugent, age 92, entered her eternal life on Saturday afternoon, May 14, 2022, sitting on her porch, where she enjoyed spending time. Mary was born in Carthage April 11, 1930, to parents Charlie and Melinda Beloney. She attended Carthage High School. She relocated to Longview, Texas in 1943 where she lived out most of her days. Although many knew Mary for her serving heart, Mary was also known in her early life for her outdoorsy, adventurous living. Some of her most favorite hobbies were archery, hunting, fishing, and hiking. She spent more day’s bird watching than watching T.V., but the bird that out beat the rest was her hummingbirds. Through the adventurous life she led, she took the time to always enjoy God’s creation. One thing many may not know was her deep love for poetry, where she once had a poem published. She served as secretary to her church, Longview Baptist Temple from 1972-1982, and Longview Baptist Tabernacle from 1982-1991. She was a devoted Christian, that you could always count on for prayer. She spent her last years in her own home, where she got to enjoy watching 3 of her great, great grandsons Dawson, Lawson, and Layton Lyons play and grow.
Mary is preceded in death by her mom and dad, brothers: David and J. O. Beloney. Her 2 amazing husbands: Houlen R. Smith of 48 years and Lester Nugent of 19 years. Son: Roger Ray. Daughter: Patsi Rivers.
She leaves behind brother and sister-in-law: Thomas and Orita Beloney, sister, and brother-in-law: Lee and Don Thomas, Daughter Tonya and step kids Curtis and Ranae. Alongside with her many great-great grandkids.
Her viewing will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 6pm-8pm. Her graveside service will be held at Memory Park Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2pm.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. John 14:1-4
